Chromatopelma cyaneopubescens breeding...

12/06/2000  Recieved a breeding group of Chromatoplema cyaneopubescens (various sizes and sexes) from Arachnocentric. These include two adult females (4-5"), and two subadult males (about 2" and 3"), to go along with Speck (4"+ male).
01/06/2001  Male #2 (Harvey) and Female #2 (Esther) molted.
01/08/2001  Male #3 molted (Philo).
01/24/2001  Female #1 molted (Teri).
03/09/2001  Male #1 (Speck) molted into a mature male... Will try to breed soon!
03/26/2001  Male #2 (Harvey) molted.
03/28/2001  I've moved Female #1 into a big 10 gallon aquarium so that she can more safely cohabit with the male. I'll start shark caging him this weekend. I haven't noticed a sperm web for sure yet, but there's so much webbing in Speck's cage, it would be impossible to tell for sure.
04/03/2001  I am shark caging speck with the female now and they are definately noticing each other. I'll let him out in a day or two so they can do their thing. The female is DEFINATELY interested.
04/09/2001  I opened the shark cage (a pet pal on its side) today. Later in the evening I saw both spiders had moved, and speck was on top of the shark cage. This species is apparently very secretive about its matings, so I'll just have to leave them together and see how it goes.
07/25/2001  After a couple weeks with the first female, I put the male with the second female. He lived with her for a few weeks than was eaten. The first female laid a sac, but ate it right away (it was apparently infertile). At first I though the second mating didn't take, but the female is getting fat now, so I'll keep my fingers crossed.
